Maxime Chattam was born in France in 1976. His youth was a time of travel, notably in the United States where a part of his family lives. He made his first steps as an actor before giving in to writing – initially with a play, then with novels. His background as a criminal science student provided the inspiration for “L’Ame du Mal”, his first thriller, which takes place in Portland, Oregon (USA).

Maxime Chattam’s writing is a mix of suspense and research information, where the latest forensic technologies are put to the test with cases all but seemingly impossible to break. Following the success of his first novel, hailed by critics as a “spectacular genre renewal”, Maxime Chattam has published a sequel and is actually working on a new project - a thriller of course!
